We spent today trying to get back on track with the homeschooling routine and such. It went fairly well and I came away feeling that we had accomplished a great deal. We did some work in our social studies book and studied the globe a while. One of the benefits of homeschooling I'm discovering is that when something we're studying prompts a question in another area, we're able to cover it without feeling like we're messing our schedule too much. Today as we were studying the globe, she asked again if the people on Antarctica wouldn't fall off. I was able to give her (and Sarah Grace) a quick lesson in gravity by having them jump up in the air to see if they would float away or come back down. They enjoyed it and I think Lainey got to point at least a little bit. Sarah Grace just enjoyed being able to jump up and down inside since that's usually against the rules. We talked about how God made the world and made all of the people in it and that some people lived in the mountains, some where the land is flat, and some by the ocean or a lake. When I mentioned that some people live in the mountains, she said, "The mountains? But there's no food there!" At least I know she's paying attention!
Tomorrow is the first day of "going" to school over in Lynden. I confess that both she and I are just a tad bit nervous about it, but I'm sure all will be well. There are only 8 kids enrolled in her class and I think one of her friends from last year's dance class will be there so I'm sure she'll do well. She's excited and I'm certain she'll be just precious with her book bag and her Princess lunch box. We've signed her up for two classes on Friday-a Spanish/Latin culture class and a class called Classical Kids where they'll listen to classical music and learn about it. When I told Lainey about that one, she said, "Oh, do we get to take an instrument?" I think she'll enjoy it all. I'm just praying that we all adjust to this new routine rather quickly and that Sarah Grace and Abby do well while we are there. I'm only required to be at the school to help for an hour each time. I hope to do more, but I'll have to see how the other two kiddos hang for it all. We won't be far from the library should we need to have a change in environment!
Well, tonight's a school night and I still have lunches to make so off I go! We'll give a full report tomorrow as to how our little student does!
