Long Days and Simple Pleasures

Today felt like the longest day ever. Lainey came and got in bed with us at 3:49 saying that she couldn't sleep and, thus, my day began. Sleeping in a double bed with one more person than should be there does not make for a restful time. Lainey only measures 3'9", but she takes up much more room than someone with such a small frame should be allowed! Just as I thought I might be able to squeeze out a few moments of sleep, Abby woke up and was ready to eat. I'm anxious for her to get back to her regular schedule of sleeping through the night. I think the shots have messed her up a bit, but hopefully she'll be back on track tonight.
Lots of details later and one short fifteen minute nap for me, Nonie and Diddy took Lainey and Sarah Grace to the mall shopping for clothes and shoes. I think a good time was had by all. We met them at Red Robin for supper. Lon slipped away and let the waiter know that we were celebrating Lainey's birthday as well as his parents' anniversary and asked them to come sing. I think his parents were surprised and Lainey was thrilled. She got to stand up in her chair and put on some silly glasses (Nonie and Diddy wore the glasses too, but got to stay seated!) while all of the wait staff sang to her. She LOVED it. After they were finished singing, we looked over at Sarah Grace and she was busy digging into Nonie and Diddy's ice cream sundae. It had two spoons, was sitting right in front of her and she figured, "Why not?" I wish I'd had my camera with me! Lainey's been having some pretty significant stomach problems (today was our 3rd trip to the doctor in 10 days) and was having a hard time during dinner. When she got the ice cream, Lon said, "Lainey does that help your tummy?" She said, "A LOT!" It's the small joys. As she was almost finished eating, she said to no one in particular, "I'm SO happy." It was precious and made it all worth while. If it only takes ice cream, she can have it all the time. She warms my heart. I wasn't in their room tonight when they said their prayers, but Lon said that when Lainey prayed she said, "I pray that you'll forgive me for my sins," to which Sarah Grace said, "My sins," and Lainey added, "and Sarah Grace's sins too." I LOVE LOVE LOVE these girls and can't wait until Abby's right in there with them. My heart is full!
Well, it's off to bed. Here's hoping that Lainey doesn't want to begin her birthday at 3:49; I don't know that I can do that 2 days in a row especially since we're having a party during our regularly scheduled quiet time!
